Prof. Adrian Kasaj: Clinical update on reconstructive periodontal surgery
The destruction of periodontal tissues occurring during the course of periodontitis can impair masticatory function and aesthetics. In order to help patients to save periodontally compromised teeth and to improve aesthetics, a variety of regenerative/reconstructive therapies have been developed over the past decades. Today, periodontal regeneration is considered a predictable procedure for the treatment of deep pockets associated with intrabony defects.
Moreover, reconstructive techniques can be successfully used to correct recession type defects and augment the zone of keratinized tissue around teeth and implants.
This lecture will focus on the clinical performance of various biomaterials and techniques used for periodontal regeneration and aesthetic root coverage procedures.
Dr. Marko Blašković: GBR procedures: new materials, old concepts!
Guided bone regeneration (GBR) was developed in the late 80’ based on the guided tissue regeneration technique. Quickly it become the most popular technique for bone regeneration due to its versatility: the same technique can be used to treat small peri-implant defects like dehiscence or fenestrations, or large horizontal defects where simultaneous implant placement is not possible, and a staged approach is mandatory. The same technique can be also used to regenerate vertical defects. The popularity of the GBR technique led to the development of different biomaterials.
Today, the GBR technique is the mostly documented technique in the literature. Still, there is a lot of confusion and uncertainty among practitioners regarding the choice of biomaterials suitable for different clinical scenarios. This lecture will try to give clear guidelines regarding the indication, choice and use of traditional and novel biomaterials with the GBR technique.
